As many of you are probably aware, I started Beneva Flowers in 1986 with my mom and dad; we started with an empty 1,000-square-foot unit and grew it into the business it is today. Beneva is my first love, and my passion for the floral industry is just as strong today as it was when we opened our doors nearly 30 years ago (they’ve been open every single day since then).
Over the years, I have been very aggressive in exploring every possible outlet to not only run a successful business, but to transform it into an industry leader. I have never been satisfied with the “status quo,” and I’m constantly searching for ways to do things better and more efficiently. I enjoy taking calculated risks and staying on the cutting edge of technology in order to help my business grow.
I have found marketing to be the “opportunity maker.” While growing Beneva Flowers, I kept noticing that it seemed everyone wanted to grow their business, but almost nobody was doing anything about it – as if they expected it to happen on its own. Unfortunately, this way of thinking is why so many businesses end up closing their doors for good.
As my company grew, it became increasingly difficult for me to focus as much attention on marketing while still running the day-to-day operations of my shop. As a result, I decided to start Beneva Solutions as a separate company dedicated solely to marketing my shop along with others in the industry that shared my vision and drive.
As much as I loved running the flower shop, my passion has evolved into helping my fellow florists overcome the challenges facing the industry and provide them with solutions that enable them to share in the success and prosperity they have worked so hard for over the years. At Beneva Solutions, we were creating custom solutions for our clients’ shops and no two were the same – that became the ultimate challenge for me.
When my son graduated from college approximately four years ago, he shared with me his ideas for the future and the shop wasn’t one of them. Although everything was great, I thought this would be the perfect time for me to think about my next steps.
With Beneva Solutions growing so much, I decided it was time to move on from Beneva Flowers in order to focus my attention on that full-time. My goal wasn’t just to sell the shop, but to find a buyer who would nurture my business and my employees and maintain the values I created to grow for the future.
On November 4, I finally found the right buyer and I sold Beneva Flowers to a great family from Chicago who I am confident will not only take excellent care of the business but also all of our outstanding employees and valued customers. I am proud that the business my family and friends worked so hard to build will be in good hands and will continue to provide unmatched service in the community for years to come.
Now that the sale has closed, I am able to fully dedicate my time and energy on Beneva Solutions and the growth of mobile technology – focusing on apps and marketing reporting technology like floralapp. I’m very excited about where we’re headed and I’m looking forward to working closer with our dynamic team at Solutions in order to give our clients the attention and service they need in order to grow their business.
Since my new office at Beneva Solutions is only about 40 yards away from my old office inside Beneva Flowers, I know I’ll be making the walk back and forth many times a day. I’ve spent nearly my entire life in the retail floral industry and that passion will always be there. I love this industry and I plan to stay active in retailing as well as technology, and our partnership with Beneva Flowers will remain strong.
It’s been a great run with Beneva Flowers, and I’m excited to move on to the next chapter of my career in this great industry. As always, if you ever have questions or concerns, please don’t ever hesitate to give me a call. I would love to chat and share our vision for the future. I look forward to hearing from you!
