Beneva Solutions is excited to announce this month’s featured florist. This person is chosen by our staff for their exceptional marketing efforts in one or more fields. This month we have chosen Georgianne Vinicombe of Monday Morning Flower and Balloon Company in Princeton, New Jersey because of her social media marketing efforts.
Here is a brief Q & A between our SCOOP director, Shelby Isaacson and Monday Morning Flower and Balloon Company’s, Georgianne Vinicombe.
Q: What prompted you to start promoting your business socially?
A: I’ve always been a very social person and when the various networks starting popping up, it really did occur to me right away to use them to get the word out about our business, I guess starting with MySpace (dating myself on that one). I’m so glad that I was an early adopter in social media for business because it’s been a wonderful thing for my business.
Q. What do you feel your customers respond to the most?
A: I think our customers respond to the beauty of our flowers. Posting photos of our fresh arrangements and loose flowers always gets the most response. I’m still amazed at how often folks will see me at a social or networking function and mention how much they enjoy my posts and how happy the flower photos make them.
Q: What social media platform is your favorite? Why?
A: I’d say that my favorite really is Facebook but, I really love blogging too. It’s a great way to educate folks and build backlinks to our website at the same time. Both have been a great way to let our friends and customers know what’s going on at the shop and what it’s like “behind the scenes.” We’ve been actively using Instagram and Pinterest too but, I’ve recently found great success with LinkedIn.
Q: What advice do you have for a shop who wants to start marketing on social media?
A: As with anything else, success comes from viewing social media as a marathon and not a sprint. If a shop is completely new to social media, I think the best place to start is with Facebook. It’s important to post at different intervals during the day and keeping at it day in and day out. I often see florist post like 3 things in a row and then post nothing for a week. Most social media won’t work for you when you do that. A consistent message is important and speaking with one voice is the best way to create a more “believable” message. It takes dedication and time to participate in social media. It may not always easy to measure ROI but, if it didn’t work, you wouldn’t have so many national retail chains using it daily. I figure if the big guys do it, so should I. In the case of social media (networking) slow and steady always wins the race.
Monday Morning Flower and Balloon Company was established in 1988 and has grown to a two store operation and delivers to over 70 zip codes. There second shop is in Yardley, Pennsylvania. When asked why she loves being a florist, Vinicombe said, “That is a loaded question for me because for a lot of people when they think of a florist, they think floral designer. I think of myself as business owner who happens to sell flowers and gifts. I can tell you, that I love how complex the industry is, the diverse customer base that we serve and the products we sell as well as the unpredictability every day brings.”
