Beneva Solutions is excited to announce Radebaugh’s Florist and Greenhouses in Towson Maryland, as this month’s featured Florist. Radebaugh’s was established in 1924 by George W. Radebaugh and is still run by the Radebaugh family. Here is a brief Q & A between our SCOOP director, Shelby Isaacson and Radebaugh’s Florist and Greenhouses, Kaitlin Radebaugh.
Q: What do you feel your business does really well?
A: I think our overall sales experience exceeds that of our competitors. For a large operation, when you call in you are greeted with a live operator to help direct you to the right person to handle your call. Customers love the technology we are currently using, mostly the emailed delivery confirmations and reminders. We certainly have an advantage having our own greenhouse ranges right here in Towson too.
Q: I understand that, from the beginning, greenhouses have been a big part of your company culture but, what brand value does it bring to your business now?
A: We can offer a wide variety of plants both green and blooming all year round. We certainly have a stellar reputation for the quality of our plants as well. People love that our plants are grown by us, on our family farm, here in Maryland. We just built a new greenhouse which will allow us to grow more plants in less time because it includes heated floors, lamps and an automatic watering system.
Q: What advice would you give a shop who is interested in adding a greenhouse to their business?
A: I actually don’t know that I would recommend adding a greenhouse to your floral shop unless you really knew the business. Investing in a greenhouse is a large expense and it takes a while to reclaim the investment. Since we run a plant wholesale business as well, the volume that we grow helps with the expense.
Q: What fun promotions does your shop do on a weekly basis?
A: We do a lot of fun promotions on a regular basis. One that is very popular is our “Build Your Own Bouquet.” Like all florists we have loose stems available in our cooler, so when someone comes in and picks out what they want, we wrap it and give them 50% off. This encourages walk in traffic because we are more of a destination shop.
